Announcing The Illuminated Alphabet Competition Winners

A huge thank you once again to everyone who participated in our Illuminated Alphabet competition, inspired by Corita Kent.
With so many brilliant entries, it was damn tough deciding who'd win.
But our valiant judge, Bob and Roberta Smith, took on this unenviable task and has chosen our three runners-up and one lucky/talented winner.
Drumroll please!
The winner:
Many congratulations to our overall winner Tita Berredo, a children's author and illustrator born in Rio de Janeiro and based in Glasgow. Bob described Tita's winning circus-themed alphabet as "very clever, amusing and witty!" and we couldn't agree more. We love seeing a different take on Corita's circus theme that inspired the whole competition.
Tita wins:
- A year's membership of House of Illustration plus guest, normally £55 a year.
- A copy of The Art of Typewriting by Marvin and Ruth Sackner, which retails at £39.95.
- A copy of Come Alive! The Spirited Art of Sister Corita by Julie Ault, which retails at £15.95.
- A trio of Corita Kent Love-themed notebooks.
- A Playmobil nun pin badge.
The runners-up:
A big well done to our three runners-up: Caroline Pullen, Emma Reith and Laura Saxby.
Caroline Pullen, a London-based graphic designer, illustrator and UX consultant, was selected by Bob for her British Sign Language alphabet - a choice we particularly love given we're running a series of illustration workshops for families in BSL this year!
Emma Reith is a second year illustration and printmaking student at Falmouth University whose linocut each letter before scanning and colouring them digitally.
And artist Laura Saxby sent her alphabet in all the way from Melbourne, Australia.
Caroline, Emma and Laura each win:
- A copy of Pop Art by Flavia Frigeri, which retails at £10.95.
- A trio of Corita Kent Love-themed notebooks.
Many thanks to our judge, Bob and Roberta Smith, and to everyone who got involved in the challenge. Following the #IlluminatedAlphabet throughout April has been illuminating indeed - not only for the many marvellous entries in all different styles and themes from all over the world, but also to see participants supporting and motivating each other and celebrating one another's work.
We're sad it's over, but don't forget you can still see the alphabet that inspired it all, along with many more terrific typographic works, at Corita Kent: Power Up until 12 May.
