On Sunday 11 October, House of Illustration took part in The Big Draw’s fantastic Drawing The World Event, in collaboration with Argent and Central Saint Martin’s along with lots of other organisations from around the local area. The whole King’s Cross Estate was buzzing with people of all ages on a mission to draw!
The Big Draw is the world's biggest drawing festival, and every year sees thousands of people getting involved in fabulous drawing activities in museums, galleries, and outdoor spaces. It's run by the Campaign for Drawing, whose mission is to raise the profile of drawing as a tool for thought, creativity, social and cultural engagement - have a look at some of the great work they do here.
It was brilliant to see Granary Square transformed into one big celebration of drawing. Our south gallery was completely taken over with keen comic creators in a mixed-media workshop delivered by Merlin Evans and Lily Beardshaw. Participants were challenged to create a four-frame comic based on some weird and wonderful lines of text picked at random. We love the results! Have a look at them here:
