Our exhibitions programme explores the boundaries of illustration, providing both historical contexts and contemporary directions. Find out more by taking a look at our Past Exhibitions.
Our new home will have generous spaces for temporary exhibitions which will draw on collections such as those at the Victoria and Albert Museum and British Museum, as well as our own. Our programme will explore the breadth of British and international illustration, and explore a wide range of genres.
What Are You Like?
Our most recent UK-touring exhibition, What Are You Like?, has reached audiences totalling more than 50,000 people across the country since opening at Dulwich Picture Gallery in 2008, and will continue to tour in 2011-12.
Based on a Victorian parlour game, the exhibition invited 45 people in the public eye to create a self-revealing artwork by illustrating 8 of their favourite things from a list of 12: their favourite animal, book, item of clothing, comfort, food, pastime, place, possession, music, shoes, weather or pet aversion (the thing they love to hate!). The result is a delightfully idiosyncratic exhibition.
