Last week we had the great pleasure of hosting the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) for a packed day of poetry and illustration. The CLPE Award for children's poetry books took place in our South Gallery, with the shortlisted poets performing their work in various nooks and corners throughtout our current exhibition, Quentin Blake: Inside Stories.

The winner was Wayland by Tony Mitton, illustrated gorgeously by John Lawrence. If you're around King's Cross you can find all the shortlisted books in our shop, as well as hunting for illustrated extracts along the great King's Cross Poetry Trail.

During the day, we were also delighted to welcome pupils from the Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children to participate in House of Illustration's school workshops programme. They worked with poets and artists to illustrate some of Julia Donaldson's poems - and then translated them into BSL to peform with Julia herself!
