We are delighted that our First Editions: Redrawn fundraising auction at Sotheby's raised a fantastic £121,070! It was a wonderful evening, with much enthusiastic bidding on the night - see below for some pictures of the event.
The highest selling lot of the the night was a first edition of A Bear Called Paddington, beautifully annotated by author Michael Bond, which sold for £15,000.
This great result means that we have now met our ‘Open Doors’ launch fund target, and the costs associated with opening our new gallery and education space in King's Cross this summer.
The auction would not have been possible without the generosity, dedication, hard work and enthusiasm of so many people. But in particular we would like to say a huge thank you to all the fantastic illustrators who so generously donated their artwork, and who have supported House of Illustration in so many ways over the years. A big thank you too to all at Sotheby's for their amazing support, expertise and style, and to all those bidders, in the room and on the phone, who bid so enthusiastically for these unique, wonderful books, and who have bought themselves a very special piece of cultural history.
