With over 100 illustrators exhibiting and crowds of visitors throughout the day, our first Illustrators' Fair was a great success.
The Fair took place in our backyard, which happens to be a giant Victorian glass-roofed shed that spans the gap between our brand new venue and the Central St Martins College of Art building next door. Market stalls, pop up shows, live illustration demos and kids' workshops filled the space. An architect-led tour of our newly constructed galleries offered a sneak preview of the exhibition spaces before the hanging of our first show. Animation screenings and talks, including the debut appearance of our Illustrator in Residence Rachel Lillie, showed off our newly equipped South Gallery events space.
The idea behind the Fair was to bring together lots of different types of illustrators and to celebrate the breadth of illustration with as many people as possible. It was great to see the public quizzing our exhibitors about their work, getting stuck into creative workshops and leaving with beautiful purchases.
We've taken on board the feedback from exhibitors and visitors that they would like to see the Illustrators' Fair return - keep an eye out for news about our future plans.
