This spring, House of Illustration is introducing an exciting new programme of friendly, informal short illustration courses for adults.
Taught by professional illustrators, our courses will be ideal for those looking to discover and develop new skills or build on their existing practice. Kicking off the programme will be two courses, An Introduction to Drawing and An Introduction to Creating Picture Books, with more to follow soon.
An Introduction to Drawing is aimed at anyone who has always wanted to pick up a pencil but never got round to it. You will be guided through the basic principles of drawing by a professional illustrator, trying out and developing a variety of techniques. This is ideal as a foundation for other courses and as an introduction to our popular Illustration Masterclasses programme.
An Introduction to Creating Picture Books is a ten-week course led by writer and illustrator Claire Alexander. You will learn the essentials of creating picture books for one- to six-year-olds which appeal to the contemporary market. Jo, a former student of Claire’s, says "Claire’s course has that winning combination of a great structure and expert teaching, with a fun and friendly atmosphere that really allows your creativity to blossom."
