In February 2017 we will open the first retrospective exhibition of the work of Jo Brocklehurst (1935-2006) - Jo Brocklehurst: Nobodies & Somebodies. Jo was a remarkable and important artist but there has never been a book about her work. With your help, we can change that!
Jo Brocklehurst was a prolific artist who responded to creative people outside of mainstream culture. She captured the vibrant dress and attitudes of punks, performers and fetishists from the 1970s to the 2000s. Jo created monumental drawings using pastel, metallic pens and fluorescent paint. These works are a unique and ‘live’ record of the subcultures of London, New York and Berlin.
We are making a 50-page softcover book to accompany our exhibition that will tell the story of Jo's life and work. It will feature 30 previously unpublished full-colour images, an introduction written by Jo’s model and muse Isabelle Bricknall and an account of Jo’s work by House of Illustration’s curator Olivia Ahmad. The book will be designed by Alice Lickens.
Book details: We will be printing a limited edition of 1000 copies. Each book will be 200x285mm, softcover (250gsm), PUR bound and digitally printed in the UK on UPM fine uncoated stock.
