Adult Masterclass: Creating Compelling Picture Book Characters

Create a compelling picture book character with publishing appeal

When, Where

Discover what makes for successful picture book characters, before creating your own with guidance from author/illustrator Claire Alexander.

Spend time analysing and discussing contemporary picture book characters, considering what might make them appealing to children, adults and publishers and why.

You'll learn how to write a character study and paint or collage your character in a colour vignette. Using watercolours as a medium Claire will demonstrate techniques to help you build textures to collage or paint with. You will also learn more about Claire’s own work and find out how to present ideas to publishers.
