Join us for a jam-packed day of talks covering all aspects of the children’s book industry with Orange Beak Studio: author and illustrator Maisie Paradise Shearring and designer Ness Wood.
Whether you’re an aspiring or established illustrator, looking to further your children’s book career or considering starting one, you’ll gain invaluable insights into everything from portfolios and publishing houses to agents, book fairs and social media.
There will be frequent breaks and plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
About the speakers
Maisie Paradise Shearring is an award-winning author and illustrator. She received the 2015 Bologna International Illustrators Award for her graphic novel Susan’s School Days, was nominated for the 2017 Bratislava Biennial of Illustration for her picture book Happy Prince and illustrated The Book Who Loved Everyone by Jane Porter which won the 2020 Little Rebels Children’s Award.
Ness Wood is an award-winning book designer and art director who has worked for many major publishers. She is a Leader in Residence at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), has taught on Goldsmiths’ Illustration and MA and lectured on Design History at the University of Brighton. She has also been a judge for the Bologna Ragazzi Award. In 2018, Ness was part of the winning team at the British Design and Production Awards, in the Graphic Novel Category.
Orange Beak Studio was founded in 2017 by designer Ness Wood and illustrator Maisie Paradise Shearring to deliver tuition, workshops and advice to those who want to specialise in children’s book illustration.
