About us

Who we are and what we do.

House of Illustration, soon to evolve into the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, is the UK’s centre for this varied and vital art form.

Illustration is for everyone. We celebrate it in all its forms, support the illustration community and empower people of all ages to tell their stories through images.

What’s happening now?

While we’re between buildings, we’re connecting people with illustration with our touring exhibitions, residencies, online content, events, courses and masterclasses, family activities and collaborations with schools and communities.

What’s next?

We’re currently developing our new home, the historic site of New River Head in Clerkenwell. Find out more about the future Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration [URL].

Why illustration?

Illustration is art with a job to do. It can be propaganda or packaging, animation or infographics. You can find it in comics or cartoons, storybooks or video games. There’s illustration in newspapers and fashion magazines, road signs and medical textbooks. Once you start to pay attention to it, you notice it everywhere.
