Learn how to illustrate a picture book and have a go at creating a rough mini version of one at this hands-on workshop with author, illustrator and educator Claire Alexander.
Claire will draw on her own experiencing of illustrating Sean Taylor’s The Snowbear to demonstrate how to tell a simple story with dynamic pictures. You’ll learn how to decide which points in a story to illustrate and how to do so, using layouts and composition to create pace and build drama.
Once you’ve got to grips with some picture book basics, you’ll create your own 16 page thumbnail storyboard, ready to be transformed into a mini book dummy.
With over 14 years’ experience writing and illustrating picture books and over a decade teaching others to do the same, Claire couldn’t be better placed to reveal the professional secrets of the picture book industry. In this session you’ll be able to learn more about Claire’s own work and professional experience and receive expert guidance on how to present ideas to publishers.
Please bring: a sketchbook and any drawing materials. All other materials are provided by House of Illustration.
Please note: this masterclass is for those aged 18+ only.
